LivWell Market is Heading to Feast Around the World

Look anywhere in this proud city and you will find people doing all of the difficult tasks it takes to make delicious food. There is a bit of everything here, and an outpouring of positivity from the business owners behind Somersworth’s restaurant scene.

It takes motivated people with energy and good intentions to bring a community together. That’s exactly what the Somersworth Chamber of Commerce is doing with the Feast Around the World. All of the businesses in this town are hard at work pumping incredible flavors into the New England Seacoast food supply chain. This event is a thoughtful way to showcase a culmination of cultures and backgrounds.

For us, we are in the process of bringing the many pieces of a life-long dream together to build a business. It’s a perfect opportunity for us to bring in a little Greek hospitality to the Feast Around the World – a festival that's all about celebrating different cultures through food.

As a Somersworth family market, we couldn't be more excited to express and share the inspiration that comes from our corners of the world. Starting with our Greek roots, we have been eager to introduce our Gyro Pita sandwich. This delicious street food is reminiscent of the flavor and aroma that is experienced on trips through villages in the mountains or near the sea. The gyro is the perfect street food to accent all of the other amazing food from around the world.

So what exactly is Feast Around the World?

Think of it as a food adventure in a passionate city with a bright future. You've got authentic dishes from lots of different locations. There will be live music and aromas filling the air, and that extra special energy that is particularly strong when the community is brought together. For us, it's perfect – we get to do what we love most by sharing real Greek food that can transport a sensation and a set of flavors from across the world all the way to our hometown.

Here's what we're bringing to the party:

Gyros – This is the one particular food that made us fall in love with Greek cooking in the first place. You can't walk two blocks in Greece without running into one of these sandwiches. We prepare our meats right here in the kitchen, grill it until it's perfect, then pile it into a warm pita with air-fried fries (because we believe fries belong in the gyro) and add fresh tomato, onion, and tzatziki, with salt, oregano, and a squeeze of lemon to bring it all together. It's organized chaos. It's delicious, and it's meant to be eaten while you're walking around. Each one of our gyros is hand-made with love and pride.

Best Gyros in Somersworth

Spanakopita – My Yia-Yia’s version of the savory spinach pie that every Greek family has their own way of making. Layers of buttery filo pastry with a filling that's been perfected over generations. Easy to eat hot or cold, sharable, and great for events. While we don’t hand-roll our own phyllo dough like Yia-Yia used to do every Sunday, she would be ecstatic for her most loved recipe to be so widely enjoyed.

Horiatiki (Village) Salad – This is the essence of community in Greece. Perfectly ripe local heirloom tomatoes, crisp cucumbers, sweet cubanelle peppers, chunks of imported feta, Kalamata olives, and red onion. Dusted with salt, pepper, and wild Greek mountain oregano to taste. Tossed in olive oil and red wine vinegar. It’s so good down to the last drinkable, soakable drop.

Souvlaki Plates – The other widely-known Greek street food is Souvlaki, and we spend a good amount of our time skewering to bring these hand-held nuggets of deliciousness to our customers. These are great for grilling at events and we are excited to start selling them frozen for people to enjoy at their homes.

Yia-Yia’s Wings - In the vein of Cultural Appreciation, we are happy to be serving Yia-Yia’s Asian-inspired chicken wings which are marinated in equal parts aminos, red cooking wine, and fresh New England Apple Cider along with a generous amount of mountain oregano and crushed garlic. A very simple and incredibly enjoyable finger food served on a bed of rice pilaf.

Why we love doing this

Food brings people together more than any other thing. Food tells stories. For us, every dish we make connects back to something – a memory, a tradition, an experience, a moment when someone felt true belonging. We started LivWell because we believe eating well is about more than just good ingredients (though those matter too). It's about sitting down with people you care about and sharing something meaningful. It’s about appreciating something that is a culmination of many hands of hard-working people that brought all of the ingredients together.

Events like Feast Around the World remind us why we do this. We get a chance to meet new people that are out exploring. We can share the recipes, cultures, and community that made us who we are as people and as a business. We get to watch kids try spanakopita for the first time. We get to see that look when someone smells a jar of oregano or tastes something that brings them back into a memory. Most importantly, we get to trade stories about times spent with those we’ve loved throughout life.

Can't make it to the festival?

No worries – we're here Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday for lunch at 78 Market Street in Somersworth. We’re soon to be providing more broadly-accessible hours, more menu items, and a larger range of products from our shelves. And if you want to skip the trip entirely, you can order online at livwellmarket.com for pickup. Keep us in mind for events - we would be happy to cater your next gathering!

We are constantly thankful for all of the people that have come and supported us, and forever grateful to be sharing our journey with you all as we broaden our presence and build our business as another pillar for this community.

Whether you're coming to try something completely new or looking for that perfect Greek meal you've been craving since your last vacation – come find us at Feast Around the World. We'll have food sizzling, tzatziki ready, and plenty of stories to share.

Special kudos to the amazing team behind the Somersworth Chamber of Commerce for their leadership and energy.

Eat well. Live well. LivWell Market.
